At one time, Maria lived next to Starkweather Creek, was a founding member of the Friends of Starkweather Creek and spent years about and informing people of the convoluted, sad history of this natural wetland that became the the city’s ditch and dump from such longtime polluters such as Oscar Mayer, Madison-Kipp, military, airport, sewage district and landfill.
